What is YoLingo?
YoLingo is a free-to-start language learning platform for adults who want to learn English, Spanish and French. Instead of a passive video course, YoLingo turns practice into a game: you flip through audio flashcards, answer quizzes, race against the clock in matching games, and work through 100 structured interactive lessons. The idea is simple - the best way to remember a word is to use it, often, in different ways.
The app is designed to work on any device and in any language. You choose the language you speak natively and the language you want to learn, and every word is translated into the language you already know. That means a beginner can start practicing on their first day without needing to understand English explanations.
Who is behind YoLingo?
YoLingo was created by Lester Findlay, an educator and language enthusiast who has spent years teaching English to learners of all backgrounds. Frustrated by the gap between expensive one-on-one tutoring and the dull, repetitive apps on the market, Lester set out to build a tool that combines the structure of a real course with the motivation of a game.
YoLingo is a small, independent project. We are not a giant corporation, which means every improvement you see is made by a team that cares about the details - from the exact pronunciation of a word to the pacing of a lesson.
How YoLingo works
Learning a language is a habit, and habits need structure. YoLingo organizes its content into 100 lessons that build on one another, from simple greetings in Lesson 1 to advanced review in Lesson 100. Around the lessons you'll find three core practice modes:
- Flashcards - flip English words with native translations, example sentences and audio.
- Quizzes - multiple-choice questions that test what you actually remember.
- Matching games - timed pair-the-word exercises designed to be fast and fun enough to do daily.
All the beginner levels are completely free. Premium unlocks advanced levels, unlimited practice and every game mode - a one-time lifetime option is available, with no ads in the app for Premium members.
Our approach to advertising
To keep the free tier free, YoLingo displays Google AdSense advertisements on its public marketing pages and on free-tier app screens. We treat the service as directed to adults, do not serve personalized ads without consent where the law requires it, and never display ads inside a lesson or game session. Premium subscribers see no ads at all.
